The best waterfalls in Madeira

With steep mountains and a wet north, Madeira is full of waterfalls. Some are at the end of classic levada walks, others can be seen from a viewpoint or even from the car.

Waterfalls on levada walks

Risco and 25 Fontes (Rabaçal): the tall Risco fall and the spring-fed lagoon, on the island's most popular walk. See 25 Fontes.

Caldeirão Verde (Santana): a waterfall dropping into a green lagoon at the end of the PR9.

Lagoa do Vento and Dona Beja (Rabaçal): quieter falls near the Levada do Alecrim.

Levada Nova (Ponta do Sol): a waterfall that falls over the path itself. See Levada Nova.

Waterfalls you can see without a long walk

The Anjos waterfall near Ponta do Sol falls over an old coastal road and is a classic photo stop. On the north coast, the Véu da Noiva (Bride's Veil) is seen from a viewpoint on the road between São Vicente and Seixal. Many west-coast 4x4 tours stop at both.
