Cabo Girão and its glass skywalk

About 580 m above the ocean, the Cabo Girão viewpoint has a glass-floored platform that lets you look straight down the cliff to the farmed terraces and the sea. It is one of the most visited sights in Madeira and only 20 minutes from Funchal.

Visiting the skywalk

The viewpoint has a car park, a café and souvenir shops. The glass platform is free to visit and the view sweeps from Funchal to the west coast. Mornings are usually clearer and less crowded, before tour buses arrive.

A cable car descends from near the viewpoint to the Fajãs do Cabo Girão, small farmed plots at the foot of the cliff, reachable only by cable car or by sea.

How to combine it

Cabo Girão is a classic stop on south-west and west-coast tours. Combine it with the fishing village of Câmara de Lobos, the vineyards of Estreito and a poncha tasting, or continue west to Porto Moniz. Many 4x4 tours include it.
